I believe we all have an innate desire to continue to improve our lives. The problem is that many of us get stuck in the grind of our day-to-day lives and don't know how to improve. So we feel dissatisfied and like we are living life on the dreaded hamster wheel.
But what if I told you there are specific methods that can help you not only radically improve your life but also help you create the exact life you want?
So many of my clients come to me when they feel stuck and like they are at a dead end. I'm the one they call in the middle of the night when a tragedy strikes or when they encounter a crises.
We don't have to wait until a crises or tragedy before making changes to improve our lives... In fact, the smart thing to do is to make changes long before it gets to that.
This is why I wanted to write this article; so I can help you avoid the crises or tragedy and instantly be on the road to your ideal life.
So what are the 5 ways to radically improve your life?
1. Change what you focus on
Have you heard the saying that where attention goes, there energy flows? Our attention is like a light. When we focus our attention (light) on something, it makes it bigger and brighter. Many haven't taught themselves how to utilize their attention to their advantage, and just give their attention to whatever it is in front of them. To create the life you want, it's essential to learn how to focus your attention on the reality you want and ignore the reality you don't want.
2. Ask better questions
If you've ever asked yourself questions like "Why does this always happen to me," or "Why am I so stupid?" or "Why can't I figure this out?" the quality of your questions are not in alignment with the life you want. When we ask ourselves a question, any question, the mind comes up with an answer no matter how bad the question is. To take your life to the next level, start asking questions like, "How can I make this happen?" or "What's the best outcome in this situation," or "How can I make this more fun?" When we ask better questions, we get better answers, and in turn, our lives radically improve.
3. Change your physiology
Our mind is super powerful and can affect our physical state. However, did you know that the opposite is also true, that you can alter your mind through changing how you use your body? Research on "power posing" from Harvard has shown that thoughts and feelings can be changed by simply adjusting certain aspects of your body, aspects like facial expressions, posture, and breathing. This means that the way you use your body has a direct impact on your psyche. Cool, right? If you want to feel stronger or more powerful (perhaps before a presentation or an interview), take the wonder woman stance for five minutes: chest out, and smile while holding your hands on your hips. Not only will you feel more empowered, your mood will elevate, making it more likely that you will get that job or do well on your presentation!
4. Change the meaning
Humans are meaning-making creatures. Our minds are always trying to give meaning to things so that we will feel more certainty. Many of the meanings we give to our experiences come from habit or beliefs we created decades ago. However, we can change the meaning we give something in an instant. There is always more than one way to see something. If someone snaps at you, we can take it to mean that they are mean. Or we can take it to mean that the person had a bad day and needs comfort. When we consciously choose the meaning we give to something (especially if that meaning is rooted in love and compassion), it's a win-win. A great question to ask it: "What else can this mean?"
5. Know where you're starting
Most people create by default and don't realize the truth: that we are powerful creators of our own unique realities. Many believe their thoughts are who they are and that they can't change the outcome of their lives. Nothing could be further from the truth. When we come to understand that we create our own reality, it can be both liberating and terrifying at the same time. To be 100% responsible for creating ourselves and our own reality... it can seem like a daunting task. But there is a simple way to ensure you are always creating what you desire, and that is to create with love. When we choose love and faith over fear, things might not always work out the way that we planned, but we will feel at peace knowing that we were true to our authentic selves, which is love. Learning to recognize with which energy I create (fear of love) has drastically improved my life and I feel so much more peace and flow. Now, does it mean that I'm perfect? No, far from it. I still get caught up in my fears and want to shrink. But the second I recognize that I am choosing fear over love, I forgive myself and consciously choose again.
By incorporating just one of these methods, you will se a drastic improvement in your life. We are here to create the reality of our hearts' desire. Most people never attain to the lives they want and instead live lives of "quiet desperation." I can't think of anything more tragic than that.
